Spiritual reflux
Dr. Bruce Greyson, M.D., is a professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. In addition to picking the nits from an individuals psyche, the good doctor is very capable of doing the same with groups. He has put together some of his findings regarding the near death experiance.
First, a couple of definitions. PTSD is the acronym for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A "control group" is nothing more than a randomly selected average group of people.
In an effort to uncover the causes for NDE's, its been found the people who experience NDE are not prone to fantasy any more than a control group.
Drug trips are superficially similar to NDE's, but as a rule do not include deceased relatives. Nor do drugs make one feel peacefully transformed by the experiance and part of a greater whole.
NDE experiencers have the same personality profile as the control group in terms of attempted suicides, family suicides, current psychiatric diagnosis, current physical symptoms and EEG abnormalities.
NDE'rs, to coin a term, are closer to the control group than those with PTSD.
People with NDE exhibit a change to positive relaxed behavior patterns.
There are thousands of NDE accounts, only a few provide compelling evidence that something is afoot. In addition to Greyson's work with the university and IANDS, another group of doctors have become intrigued enough to form a foundation to study the phenomenon.
