Welcome home
Wouldn't want ya to get to thinkin' that US scientists have all the fun. My vowel-enriched team at the European Space Agency's facility in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, redefined the boundary of survival. They popped the lid on an experiment recently returned from space, containing two forms of lichen.
These lichens, a lifeform combining algal and fungal cells, survived over 14 days completely exposed to the rigors of space. After the bombardment of various types of radiation, suffering extremes of temperature and atmospheric conditions, they appear to be none the worse for wear- still capable of photosynthesis.
