I know you've been sittin' there wondering, "How does one go from cow pie to vanilla extract?". It's been on my mind too.

For that answer we need to go to the International Medical Center of Japan, where we find Mayu Yamamoto. She's found a way to extract vanillin from cow feces. Says this component is exactly the same as that found in the vanilla bean.

And it costs less to harvest. All you have to do is put the poo in a pressure cooker for an hour, and there it is.

She doesn't think people would care to have it in ice cream or cake, but it could be used in shampoo and aromatic candles.
