Readers of QuantumFog are encouraged to use a stick while poking around in the effluvia of the internet. Every once in a while though, you turn up something actually useful. Take those aluminum foil hats for instance.
The hats have been the crown of innocents for the past half century, a uniformly understood equivalent of a mental spit bubble.
No more. In fact, a coupla years ago idle researchers at MIT found the helmets to amplify frequencies between 1.2Ghz and 1.4Ghz. That frequency spread belongs to the federal government, used for satellite communication such as GPS.
The foil also improves reception in the 2.6Ghz band, used for cell phones. I'm willing to share my roll of aluminum with Cingular customers.
