Scientists have created a new virus that can attack and destroy a colony of slimey bacteria called biofilm. That means it eats the stuff that grows on your teeth when ya don't brush.
Or, what grows on that meat in the display counter.
They figger the virus can be used as an industrial cleaner in meat processing plants to break down E. coli bacteria and other nasties. Sounds great. I got a question for these guys.
Is there some way to turn off the reproduction feature on the virus? Because, what comes to mind are the evolving flu viruses that are all the rage these days, like the H5N1 pictured here.
I've not run across anything that explicitly says they can control viral reproduction. What a bacteria-eating virus would evolve into, or when, is anybody's guess.
