Craig Venter is in the top 100 of Time magazine's most influential people in the world. He's known for his research and commercial ventures in sequencing the human genome.

Today, he's started another company to modify organisms to produce ethanol and hydrogen as waste products. Venters' researchers have gone from there to something astounding. They've managed to convert an organism into a completely different species by doing the world first genome transplant.

Now, I wouldn't want to change species, but if they could convert my methane production to unleaded 96 octane ....
