Some folks are like me. We let the top feeders take the hit on depreciation and buy the cars used. For instance, we have here a 1904 Rolls Royce.

It's the worlds oldest Rolls, going on the auction block at Bonham's in London on December 3rd. This will be the second sale of the car, the first being in 1904. Starting bid is expected to be $2,000,000.

Here's the diffference after a hundred years. Below is the Carnegie-Mellon entry into DARPA's Urban Challenge. This vehicle has no driver, it's a completely autonomous robot.

A total of 89 teams are in Victorville, CA competing for a place in the finals. Only 20 robotic vehicles will compete on November 3, 2007 for the top prize of $2,000,000. Second place gets $1,000,000.

Its free to the public, should be a good way to spend the day.

After the teams flip the "on" switch, all they can do is watch while the robots attempt to operate in live traffic, make left turns against oncoming traffic, avoid parked cars, maneuver into parking spaces, and a buncha other stuff. Possibly the most expensive demolition derby in history.
